Operation Respond

Earlier this year, first responders from agencies in the State of Kentucky were invited to Operation Respondparticipate in integrated technology demonstrations.  These events, sponsored by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, demonstrated an integrated motor carrier tracking technology that links motor carriers, tracking systems and the MultiMode Global Messaging Service (MSGS) for facilitated incident response and mitigation.

During the demonstrations, a Somerset Oil tank truck equipped with QUALCOMM's satellite tracking system simulated several truck incidents in a live scenario.  An alert was sent from the trucks tracking system based on a series of conditions such as a driver-initiated panic alert or travel “off-route” from designated geo-fencing. When the alert was received, an automatic emergency notification was sent via MultiMode Global Messaging Service (MGMS.) For these demonstrations, notifications were sent instantaneously to mobile phones using voice and text messages. However, the MGMS advanced network could also accommodated simultaneous notifications to other devices including: landlines, faxes, pagers and Web messages.

The alert instructed first responders to access a real-time site for HAZMAT Bill of Lading and vehicle schematics to those arriving first on the scene.
